Please note: We do not accept unsolicited requests for funding.
Because our grantmaking mission and approach to funding are quite different than most funders, we encourage you to read the information below before contacting us.
Our goal is to support small environmental organizations around the world that otherwise would not have access to funding. We have developed a grantmaking model that relies on trusted [begin link advisors.html]advisors[end link] to identify worthy groups working in their region or issue area. This approach allows us to avoid the costly process of soliciting and reviewing proposals.
This, in turn, allows us to keep our overhead as low as possible and ensure that more funds reach the grassroots. It also allows startup and community organizations that may be unfamiliar with the traditional proposal process to gain access to seed funding.
In the course of their work with their own organizations, our grantmaking advisors come into contact with a wide range of small organizations. This puts our advisors in an ideal position to identify groups that can make effective use of a small grant. Our advisors work as volunteers to make recommendations and to provide ongoing mentoring and other assistance to these groups.
We do not have the capacity to accept unsolicited proposals. We only make grants to organizations that have been recommended to us for funding through one of our advisory boards.
Unfortunately, we also have a policy of not providing specific contact information for any of our advisors ñ only their names and affiliations. Because our advisors work with us on a volunteer basis, we want to ensure that they are not overwhelmed with proposals. You may, however, already be familiar with one of the organizations or individuals listed, in which case you may certainly feel free to contact them if you would like to discuss a grant.
We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration caused by this policy, but we believe that the limitations of our grantmaking model also are its greatest strength. Our reliance on our advisor network allows us to fill a unique and important niche and support great projects around the world.
We wish you well in your efforts to secure funding for your own project. Your dedication and hard work are helping to make the world a better place.
