We extend a warm welcome to Marila Lazaro of Uruguay, the newest member of our Southern Cone advisory board. This board recommends grants in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile.
Marila is a part of the Science and Development Division of the Faculty of Sciences in Montevideo. As a biologist, she has developed studies related to ethology (animal behavior) and conservation genetics. She has also undertaken an environmental education project with the children of small-scale fisherman to increase awareness about the accidental capture of small cetaceans. Marila is currently finishing her Doctorate in Philosophy, Science, Technology and Society from the Basque Country University in Spain. The theme of her thesis is: “The Culture of Science and Social Participation in Environmental Problems”.
We are so pleased to have Marila as an advisor in our Southern Cone Advisory Board. She tells us, “I’m excited about the idea of bringing together my theoretical and practical studies about science literacy and social participation in environmental politics with Greengrants’ work in direct contact with and support of groups and communities involved in specific socio-environmental problems and initiatives.”
