The US news has been reporting Bolivia’s expulsion of the US Ambassador, Phillip Goldberg
This comes at the time of violent protests throughout Eastern Bolivia, especially in Santa Cruz and Tarija, led by the far-right. Yesterday in Tarija there was an explosion on a natural gas pipeline supplying Brazil. About a hundred indigenous people were injured when right-wing youth groups attacked a public market.
In Santa Cruz, right-wing protesters have targeted state offices, telecommunications, and transportation facilities. They have taken over the headquarters of a national indigenous organization (CIDOB) and an armed group broke in and ransacked the offices of the human rights organization CEJIS (Greengrants grant 50-207, 2003), burning much of their law library.
