On Wednesday, the Aveda Corporation will launch its 2009 Earth Month Campaign dedicated to raising awareness about water access and water rights around the world. During the month, Aveda’s goal is to raise $3 million for organizations protecting clean water—including $1 million from the sale of the Light the Way candle, to benefit Greengrants. Aveda is nationally-recognized as a leader in the movement for environmental responsibility in the beauty and wellness field. Greengrants is proud to partner with such a socially and environmentally responsible corporation.

Aveda and Greengrants have had a successful partnership for ten years. During the past two years’ Earth Month campaigns alone, the company has raised over $1.7 million for Greengrants’ work. Some of the hundreds of great projects that this has made possible include the development of a water-catchment and treatment system in India; a campaign against water privatization in South Africa; and promoting alternatives to pesticide use in Sri Lanka.
This year, Aveda is hosting a “Walk for Water” through its salons and spas around the world to raise awareness and funds for clean water. During the week of Earth Day, April 22nd, Aveda salons and spas will hold a 6K walk—the average distance a woman in developing countries walks to get clean water.
