The real solutions to climate change will come from frontline communities resisting untenable fossil fuel development, the work of traditional farmers who practice soil conservation, the rights of indigenous peoples to defend their forests, and strong resilient communities with diverse economies and networks.

Local people are the most important stewards of the land, biodiversity, water, and their families’ health. Global Greengrants Fund supports communities to demand that polluters clean up toxins and waste, revive critical habitats such as coral reefs, and protect watersheds for future generations.

To save our planet, we must invest in the farmers, fisherfolk, beekeepers, and artisans whose economies restore the environment, ensure a fair wage, and survive in the face of disasters. This isn’t just about income. It’s about resisting boom and bust development that extracts natural resources at all costs.

Secure community rights are the foundation of a healthy environment. We support indigenous people and communities to defend their ways of life, and stand up to extractive industries, land grabbing, and privatization.

Women are on the frontlines of action to protect the Earth. They are also disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation. Lasting change must include women’s voices and address gender inequalities. We are the world’s leading supporter of women as agents of environmental change.

Throughout the world, it is increasingly dangerous for people to take a stand for the environment. Widespread restrictions, repression, and outright attacks put the work and lives of many environmental activists at risk. Global Greengrants Fund supports at-risk environmental defenders with improved access to resources and strategic assistance.
